Navigating this issue can be challenging in a remote work setting. To address it, I recommend having an open discussion with your team. Flexibility is one of the major benefits of remote work, which means that everyone’s work hours may differ. It is possible that sending work-related emails outside of your working hours does not imply that the sender expects an immediate response. However, you won’t be aware of their expectations until you discuss it with them. Another helpful suggestion would be to include a statement in your email signature indicating that your work hours may differ from theirs, and that you do not anticipate them to work outside of their typical hours. As a manager, I have found this to be especially useful because I didn’t want my team to feel obligated to respond right away. I also believe that you can train others how to treat you. By proactively establishing your boundaries, your team will be aware of them. Best of luck!
